All too often we’ve heard that the elderly are stuck in their ways and adverse to change. Well, 103-year-old United Kingdom resident Lillian Lowe is putting this stereotype to rest. She is the unofficial oldest Facebook user in the world.
Lowe, who can still remember hearing the news that the Titanic had sunk, has completely embraced 21st century technologies. She even uses her grandson’s iPad to check her Facebook account, where she keeps track of her seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. With 34 friends altogether, you can often find Lowe looking at photographs and reading through Facebook messages that are left for her.
Lowe is a wonderful example of how seniors are fully capable of integrating the newest technologies into their lives. She also demonstrates how beneficial technology can be to seniors – as it opens up many ways for the elderly to keep in contact with family and friends.
Give Facebook and other social media programs a try if you haven’t already. If someone approaching their 104th birthday can embrace it, so can you.
