For fans and Apple gurus, the moment is nearly here. This weekend, Apple’s much anticipated iPad will debut in stores. Expectations for this device are sky-high; early reviews portray the iPad as a simple device that may be the gadget that the casual consumer will embrace wholeheartedly.

The meat of the iPad’s functionality is similar to Apple products like the iPhone, in that the features, like apps, truly make the device. The old favorites: e-mail, Safari, maps, Youtube, and the like have made the move. Apple has made the iPad compatible with the majority of apps currently available. The noticeable difference is that the layout of these apps have adjusted to the iPad’s larger screen. For seniors, the simple matter of making the apps

    I just purchased one for my 85 year ‘young’ mother who is moving into an assisted living community this month. She hasn’t yet tried it because I want to set it up in situ and the cable guy is late.

    However, before I could tell her about it, she said to me, “Have you seen that new ‘thingy’ from Apple yet? It looks like it can do EVERYTHING I want to do!”

    So there you have it; an 85 year old ‘early adopter.’

    Who would have guessed?

    I’ll send in another post after she has been using it for a week or so.
