IHS market researchers believe the Windows operating system could best Apple’s iOS for the number-two spot by 2015. The firm believes the Windows phone will account for 16.7 percent of the smartphone market by this time. This would be a huge jump, considering Windows currently holds less than 2 percent of the market share. Android, which occupies the number-one spot when it comes to operating systems, is predicted to retain its title.
Many of Windows’ hopes are pinned on the new Lumia 900 smartphone, which recently debuted at CES. The phone features a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen, a 12-megapixel camera and a strong battery, among other features. Though this is a Windows phone, Nokia is expected to account for more than 50 percent of its sales.
