Senior Friendly Features
Sony’s 55-inch Bravia 3D LED HDTV is stunning. Turned off, it fits their “monolithic design” description perfectly. Hopefully not to the point of making you think of 2001: A Space Odyssey every time you see it in your living room.
In addition to a large display, it has Corning Gorilla glass to make it not only resistant to scratches and breakage, but also great anti-reflective qualities and excellent contrast. All of which make it very easy to see all the great details. Full HD 1080p with a high refresh rate means that movies and TV in 2D or 3D look fantastic and are easy on the eyes. Optional active shutter 3D glasses are needed for viewing 3D content. A built-in light sensor can brighten the screen based on the ambient light in the room. Sony’s Intelligent Presence Sensor uses built-in Face Detection technology to turn itself off if no one is watching, warns children when they’re too close to the screen and adjusts picture and sound based on where people are sitting in the room.
Internet widgets give you access to Hulu Plus, Netflix, YouTube and other choices for internet-delivered video, as well as social networks like Facebook and Twitter. You can use it for Skype calls with an optional camera that attaches to the TV. It has a feature that cuts virtually all power to the set when it’s turned off, so you don’t have to unplug the TV to make sure it isn’t still drawing several watts of energy when off, like some TV sets do.
