Panasonic’s new DMC-FZ150K digital camera is a bridge camera. The lens isn’t removable, but you wouldn’t want to, because this is an incredible lens. It’s a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens, starting at a very wide 25mm (in 35mm equivalent) and zooming a whopping 24x to 600mm. You can get REALLY close, and with the Leica name on the lens, you know it’s good. There is a lens element with nano coating and several ED elements to make it very sharp. It features fairly quick autofocus, making it good for shooting sports and other fast-moving subjects. For framing, it has an articulated 3-inch LCD and an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF).
It can shoot very fast, up to 12 frames per second without autofocus, or 5.5 frames per second with. It also shoots 1080/60p HD video, and can do up to 220 fps in QVGA mode. There’s a 3D setting that allows you to shoot up to 20 images, then the camera combines the best two to make a 3D image viewable on any VIERA 3D HDTV or any other television or monitor capable of displaying MPO files (MPO files are also used by cameras like the Sony TX10 for display on Sony HDTV sets).
It has a good grip on the right side for holding, and the buttons are placed in ergonomically easy-to-reach places. Some of them are a little on the small side, but crisp white lettering against the matte black body makes them easy to see. It’s not light, at 1.06 lbs, but it’s a lot of camera and a lot of good lens in one camera. On a professional camera, a 600mm prime lens is nearly two feet long, and can weigh over 11 pounds. And it doesn’t zoom!
The hotshoe on the top can not only hold a flash, but other accessories like an optional stereo microphone, as well.
The camera has manual controls and full intelligent automatic, as well. It’s made to work quickly and provide very good image quality, including raw image files.
