Motorola’s latest smartphone is out, and it’s impressive. The Atrix is truly a powerful and tiny computer in the form of a phone. It has a 1 GHZ dual-core processor, 4″ qHD (one-quarter HD in their terminology) touchscreen, front- and rear-facing cameras, 16 GB of internal memory, MicroSD slot for up to 32GB more storage, and more. It runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will run all the over 100,000 apps in the Android Market. It will also run the full version of Firefox browser.

The rear-facing camera is 5 megapixels with an LED light and shoots 720p HD video. The screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass. It offers all the same GPS maps with Google integration and other features you’d expect from an Android phone. The little screen on the top of the back? That’s a fingerprint sensor, so you can require your own fingerprint to unlock the screen. That’s really cool!

There are two unique dock options for the Atrix that also really set it apart. The first is a multimedia dock with USB connections to hook up a mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc. and an HDMI port to connect to your HDTV or home theater.

The second is even more impressive, it’s the Laptop Dock. It’s a very thin laptop with an 11.6 inch screen, keyboard, stereo speakers, and a battery that offers up to 8 hours of battery life. It acts as a laptop computer, but its brain is the Atrix phone, so you never have to “sync” the two, they are always as one machine. A very interesting twist on integration and convergence.

The Atrix and related accessories are available on AT&T’s network.
