Ectaco’s jetBook-Lite ereader offers a great way to carry your books with you if you’re an avid reader. It’s very light, similar to the Kindle at 9 ounces (though the screen is 5 inches diagonally vs Kindle’s 7 inches), uses rechargeable or alkaline AA batteries, and has an SD card slot for more storage. The design is simple, with a window at the bottom to control page turns, which users claim is faster than with e-ink. Viewing angle is nearly 180 degrees.

It doesn’t play MP3 files, nor does it offer wireless connectivity. Books have to be loaded the old-fashioned way (well, old fashioned in the tech world), by loading them onto the SD card from your computer. It supports a number of ereader file types, including ePub (libraries use this to lend ebooks), Mobi (which may mean Kindle), PRC, RTF, PDF, TXT,  jpg, gif, png and html and bmp (bitmap) files.

The device is thin, except for a bump on the back that covers the batteries. Many users report that the bump actually makes it much easier to hold in their hands.

  • Support of ePub, Mobi, PRC, RTF, txt, pdf, fb2, jpg, gif, png, and bmp file formats
  • Support of DRM format through Barnes & Noble’s. True pocket-sized portability for thousands of eBooks.
  • Support for eBook contents Screen rotation support for both portrait & landscape modes. SD card slot. Batteries 4xAA
  • Bidirectional dictionaries for certain European languages (including German and Spanish) are available.
  • Pre-loaded CIA World Factbook. Bookmarks and auto page turn functionality. Adjustable font type and size.
  • Multilingual interface options that include German and Spanish.
  • It’s available on Amazon.com for $99 or Newegg.com for $84.

I love my Ectaco. It is much superior to my daughters Kindle. As for the ‘bump’ on the back where the batteries go it is helpful in holding the reader especially for people with arthritis. Also I just carry extra batteries in my purse where as most readers have to search for a wall outlet to recharge.
One other thing I find I am reading more and enjoying it more. Bravo to a wonderful product.
