It seems that Amazon has taken a cue from many app makers in that it has traded a higher price for the placement of advertisements on its newest Kindle offer. The best-selling Kindle model normally sells for $139. However, if you’re willing to put up with ads at the bottom of the homescreen and on the screensavers then you can pay $114 for the same unit.
This type of trade-off is not new to the tech world. Many app manufacturers produce a free version of the app that is chalked full of ads, while the ads-free version costs a few dollars. Many product demonstrations also include advertisements.
Amazon says Visa, Olay, Buick and an Amazon.com Rewards Card that is being offered through Chase Bank will be the first ads to premiere on the Kindle. This discounted unit is available for pre-order, and will ship on May 3.
