Pretty much everything having to do with video nowadays – whether you’re talking TVs, Blu-Ray, laptop or Netbook displays, camcorders or even cell phones – is all about high-definition, and if you’re in need of an external webcam, the world’s largest computer peripheral manufacturer Logitech has you covered here as well with the addition of the HD Pro C910 with 1080p video to its new lineup of webcams.

The C910 dropped in August for around $99 sporting the top specs amongst the new crop of webcams with its full HD 1080p video capturing, HD 720p video calling capabilities and featuring a Carl Zeiss optics lens with autofocusing, all complimented by excellent audio/voice quality thanks to its integrated dual stereo microphones.

Other perks include the camera letting you take 10-megapixel snapshots, RightLight 2 technology for improved adjustments to brightness, contrast and color, and the inclusion of a variety of playful video effects using face-tracking technology to map onto your likeness accessories such as a pirate hat, a crown, or even full avatars such as a dinosaur that moves when you move and talks when you talk.

Getting into its operation and installation, the camera’s flat, wide design fits nicely on both desktop monitors and laptop computers and attaches via Logitech’s universal clip on either the top or the side of your display – wherever you choose – and also features a convenient adjustable arm to accommodate whatever position you’re most comfortable in. There’s no arching forward or bending to the camera’s viewing angle as with other fixed, immovable cameras of the past. It is then connected to your computer through USB and uses Logitech’s included Vid HD video calling software, though it is also compatible with a wide variety of video-calling applications such as Skype or Windows Live Messneger. That’s all there is to it.

If you’re into blogging, ranting or making a fool of yourself in search of internet viral-video stardom, you’ll also get easy, one-click uploading to popular sites such as YouTube and Facebook, and can even edit and gussy-up your mini-masterpieces with the included Magix video and photo editing software.

A system running Windows XP or higher is required for the C910 and to get the most out of the webcam’s superior HD capabilities you’ll want to have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better, at least 2GB of RAM, a reliable high-speed internet connection with at least 1Mbps upload speed and a USB 2.0 port for its connection.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 with 1080p video is available at Amazon.com.
