Compared to Apple and Android, Blackberry’s Apps World is rather small, containing about 15,000 apps, compared to 300,000 apps and 100,000 apps, respectively. This does not, however, mean that Blackberry or its marketplace is unfriendly to seniors. Quite the contrary, in fact, as the New York Times points out. There are more than enough apps to keep seniors busy and happy – you just need to know where they are.
The Times’ list includes some practical choices that are both convenient and easy for seniors to use. They include Google Mobile, a free voice search app that gives seniors an alternative way to search online if they don’t want to use the Blackberry QWERTY keypad.
Another good choice is Shazam, a free app that identifies songs on the radio. This is the perfect app for seniors who love listening to music, but may have trouble identifying or remembering song titles or artists. Shazam is also a great way to discover new songs.
Finally, the Weather Channel app does exactly what it sounds like – it gives accurate weather reports in an intuitive layout. Never be stuck without a jacket or umbrella again!
