Netflix Debuts Android App, Opens Up New World to Hackers

Now that Netflix has an official app in the Android Marketplace, phishers have gone to work creating a lookalike version that will steal your Netflix log-in information.  If you should download the faux app, you’ll be greeted with a message that says your device is not compatible with Netflix as you log in.

This would give phishers access to your user name and password, which won’t inherently let them steal your identity or credit card information, but it’s a start. This could be especially dangerous if you use the same password, email address or username for multiple accounts.

Android users were susceptible to this phishing scam because the real Netflix app was released only on certain devices earlier this year. Though it’s now available across the Android platform, it left many confused enough to download the fake version.
