Microsoft has a powerful new tablet in the Surface Pro 4. It builds on the Surface series, now offering a sixth generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor, 128-512 GB of storage, and Windows 10 with 4-16 GB of RAM. There’s a MicroSD slot to add more storage. With an SD-card adapter, you can easily use it in your digital camera and view the images right away on the big screen.
The 12.3″ screen is huge, one of the biggest in the tablet market, with incredible contrast and a low glare cover to make it easy to work any time of day, in any light conditions, with no eye strain. It’s a tablet with a detachable keyboard cover and a stylus called the Surface Pen that detects angle and pressure, making writing or drawing a snap. It runs a full version of Windows 10 and Microsoft office, as well as browser, other apps and offers Cortana, as well.
In addition to the MicroSD card reader, it has full-size USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort, a headset jack, Cover port, and Surface Connect. The front-facing camera is 5 megapixels and the rear-facing camera is 8 MP with 1080p video recording. There are stereo microphones and stereo speakers with Dolby audio.
If you want a tablet AND a laptop without having to have both, this is a solid choice. Unlike a regular laptop, though, battery life is rated up to 9 hours. It’s definitely made for power users, and priced accordingly. It starts at $999 with the Intel Core i5, 128 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM and goes up to $2199 for the Core i7 version with 512 GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.
