An oversupply of LCD TV panels is good news for shoppers this holiday season. The large supply, combined with the oversupply that occurred in the first quarter of this year, have caused prices to drop to about 5 percent lower than they were at this time last year.
This drop will continue until prices bottom out at about 12 percent lower than 2009 levels, which will likely happen at the very end of 2010 or beginning of 2011, according to iSuppli, a market research firm.
The firm says that 32-inch LCD TVs that currently sell for between $349 to $399 will be reduced to $249 to $299 by Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. Those wanting to take advantage of these price cuts should do so before mid-January or so, when iSuppli believes the market will correct itself.
