The way in which you take your prescription pills might be changing soon. Within a few years, you might be consuming pills that are made specifically for you.

Currently, when you pop a pill, 99.9% of that tablet is useless. The other .1% constitutes the appropriate active ingredient. Additionally, pills are designed through with the “one-size-fits-all” model. This model might seem like a waste, and it is subject to change in the near future.

Researchers at the University of Leeds, Durham University, and GlaxoSmithKline are working to create pills that are customized, fort he patient, with the active ingredient printed onto the actual surface of the tablet. Thus, each single pill could potentially hold more than one type of medication.

Needless to say, printed pills will be tremendously useful for seniors who take several medications at once. The pill box might become an obsolete object, if all of your prescriptions are bundled together in one pill. Consider it a future time saver and headache eliminator for seniors who might take up to twelve different pills a day. We will keep you posted on this development.
