Google Offers Free Calls Via Gmail to Active Military

What a perfect story to usher in Labor Day weekend. Google is offering free calls to military personnel serving overseas through Gmail’s calling program. Servicemen and women simply have to add their military email addresses, which end in “.mil,” to their Google accounts to take advantage of this generous offer.

Google enthusiasts probably know that all account holders can make unlimited free calls within the U.S., but the offer doesn’t extend internationally. Friends and family who reside stateside, however, can call their loved ones serving overseas for two cents a minute.

This offer will last at least through 2011, though Google hasn’t announced an official stopping date yet. Maybe the program should end once all our military personnel are brought back home? Just saying…
