GE Adjusts Motion Sensors to Monitor Senior Health

ge_sensor

The trend of major manufacturers’ toward meeting the needs of seniors is a very welcome and encouraging sign for a growing elderly population. Engineers at General Electric’s Global Researchdevelopment arm have transformed one of the company’s existing home security motion sensors into a device that’s smart enough to classify different types of motion. Its sensors have become so sophisticated, in fact, that  they can even wirelessly monitor a person’s breathing and heart rate. The upgrades allow the sensor’s ‘brain’ to better process a person’s movement. Possible applications for the improved motion sensor include monitoring hospital patients or the elderly at home.
