ElderGadget founder Elie Gindi had a chance to compare and contrast two new smartphones at CES 2011 in Las Vegas, the HTC Evo and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Both smartphones sport similar screen size dimensions. The HTC Evo has a 4.3-inch, 800×480 LCD display, whereas the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has a 4.2-inch, 854×480 LCD display. Both feature 8 megapixel rear-facing cameras, though the HTC Evo has an additional 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera whereas the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has none.
As for which is the most senior friendly? Besides the omission of a front-facing camera, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is thinner and lighter, making it an easier phone to hold onto. And although both smartphones run on the Android operating system, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc runs on the new, improved Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It also has a much better battery life than the HTC Evo.
If you’re looking for a smartphone that’s easy to use, easy to see, easy to hear and easy to understand, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc gets our vote, though the HTC Evo isn’t a bad choice, either.
