Cyber Monday kicks off the beginning of the online holiday shopping season. There’s no debating the convenience of this key shopping day, as you can sit around in your pajamas taking advantage of steep sales and a plethora of free shipping offers. With incentives like that, what’s not to love?
This shopping day doesn’t come without its hazards, however. The FBI notes that anytime credit card numbers are being exchanged it can bring a hotbed of criminal activity. Luckily, the bureau just released its list of the top stay-safe tips for online holiday shoppers.
- Only purchase gift cards directly from that retailer’s website. Do not use third-party sites.
- Never click on links embedded in email advertisements. Manually type in the store’s web address if you want to take advantage of a promotion you received via email or ad banner.
- Call your financial institution directly if you receive an email or text saying there is a problem with one of your accounts.
