Some consumers are reporting airport X-ray machines can scramble the displays of their Kindles. They assert scanners can expose the e-readers to radiation, which can burn the screens, rendering the devices useless.
The message boards aren’t all doom and gloom regarding this issue, however. Many posters noted it is not even possible for a scanner to damage the Kindle’s e-ink display. Amazon spokesmen reiterated this stance, saying the scanners should not cause any problems for its e-readers whatsoever.
You’d think this debate could easily be solved by testing out how a Kindle responds to an airport scanner and posting a video online. Unfortunately, neither consumers, nor Amazon has gone to these lengths.
