Free shipping seems to be the name of the game this holiday season – and for good reason. SalesTracker reports that online sales this Cyber Monday were up 33 percent from last year, with many shoppers opting to avoid the crowds that usually accompany the start of shopping season.
Unfortunately, one of the biggest downsides to online shopping is the cost of shipping and handling (and the inevitable waiting game, but that’s another story for another day). To grease the wheels of wary shoppers, most big name companies have done away with these fees, which can cost upwards of $10 on standard orders, if spend a certain minimum.
For example, Target offers free shipping if you spend $25 or more. Macy’s will ship for free on all orders above $75. Then there’s Apple, which came out with a very generous offer to ship all products for free. Period. Through Dec. 22.
Apple normally grants free shipping privileges on orders totaling more than $50, so this is very hospitable, indeed. This offer will no doubt encourage shoppers to purchase smaller items as stocking stuffers or cheaper items to give to friends and co-workers. The free shipping offer applies to all purchases made through the online Apple Store or via the Apple Store iOS app.
